The Wonderment Of Breeding Your Personal Worms
Write-up by Allan Wilson
I stand in awe at how wonderful the humble worm is. As a keen fisherman I only ever employed to appear at them as bait for my fishing exploits till a single day it was pointed out to me just what this tiny creature gives for our planet.
It all began with one more planned trout fishing trip with some guys I worked with. We decided we necessary worms and we all knew instantly exactly where we could get a ton of them.
Across the road was a vacant paddock that couldn't be built upon and in reality large sections of it you couldn't even walk on. Apparently in the bad old days before environmental controls had been enforced on companies the nearby abattoir had utilized this paddock to dump all of its fat.
So we had this complete paddock filled with buried lard and the end result was millions of worms. So off we'd go with shovel in hand and dig up the fat and bust it open and collect the worms. The biggest issue was the worms usually stunk pretty badly due to the fact of the stuff they were living in.
It was during 1 of these expeditions that one of my mates told me that the worms were in fact turning the fat back into dirt. I couldn't believe it at the time. Do you really mean to tell me that the worms pooh is dirt? How amazing is that?
They chew in junk and pooh out pure dirt. If an individual invented a machine like they would be praised by everybody wouldn't they? Oh - Hang on a minute, maybe not so - Somebody did generate such a machine, it is called the worm and the creator was God. It seems he does not get as significantly credit as he should.
Anyhow this guy who told me all this stuff ended up breeding worms himself. I don't forget we were going to go on yet another fishing expedition I mentioned I would go and dig up these worms once again but my buddy said not to worry he had his own.
I didn't know you could breed your own worms at the time and he took me about to his house and showed me his set up.
In his back shed he had an old bath tub which was kept in a darkened location. On top of the old bathtub was a heap of moist leaves and stuff and when he removed them he scooped up a significant handful of what looked like extremely rich soil. Within that soil was hundreds of worms. We got our fishing bait inside minutes, I thought it was magic.
This mate of mind was are far more avid trout fishermen then I was as I preferred salt water fishing and the primary cause he began breeding his own fishing worms was due to the fact we were worried about the poor smell of the ones were obtaining from the paddock complete of fat.
Anyhow I can actually vouch for how simple breeding your own worms is and if you do a lot of fishing then you'd be mad not to start off your personal worm farm
