Right after 3 weeks my worms are nevertheless alive but I have a couple of questions. I feel a adjust of menu is in order probably. I also give a speedy run about the indoor garden to show the outcomes thus far. The heat pad is operating nicely for the starters but every little thing else has slowed down a little. Bit of a flicker/distortion happening with my vids at the moment.. Testing distinct settings and this 1 turned out a bit rough also.. not positive why.. attempting to function it out.. I can’t grow a pine apple to save my life. Wonder if there is a tropical plant soil mix. Or maybe I should just not grow pineapples.
@mhpgardener Hey Bobby, The salts and oils on your hands can harm the tender skin of the worms. I will rub some vermicompost on my hands to kind of coat my hands if Im not using gloves. Karen is smart to use gloves on her hands if she has cuts. If you bite your nails gloves are a must. LOL
Hi there Karen… We have the little mites in all of our bins as well… Started to harvest our ½ barrel farm today & noticed that 2 of the 3 farms had slowed down… I think it is due to the colder weather…The big blue farm that gets some sun in the morning is still full of active wrigglers so that’s my reasoning…

It’s prolly better that kitty likes pineapple better than worms! LOL Our first pineapple failed I think because we stuck it in too big of a pot and it was hard to keep the bottom of it moist enough. Not sure, but that’s my best guess.
Good for you in starting a worm bin. I been thinking about it too. I need one more project. Yeah, right. lol Love what you are doing.

@mhpgardener Haha maybe he was… Glove in worm bin cause I have scratches all over and there is decaying food in the bin… I would normally have my hands in there. I’m glad I started on a small one for my first one. Means I can easily assess how they are doing and learn the moisture levels and how they feed etc. Won’t be long before I want to extend though i’m sure.

@thehittmann1981 A couple of months… Hmm.. if I can keep the cat off that long… I really don’t expect much from this one but if it fails then I’ll just try again. Good luck on the fruiting part..

With the pineapple when I did mine I stripped all but about 3 sets of leaves off so the white stem part was probably a good 5cm long. I let it dry outside for a couple of days before planting it. It took a couple of months before any growth was noticeable.
I’ve never replanted it so I actually have no idea what the root system is like but they there are no roots coming out of the bottom of the pot and it’s been in there now for around 6 months now. Hopefully it fruits this year
@stillwaterwhispers This is my first time growing inside. i usually have them in one of those plastic tent type greenhouse thingers outside. I shall have to transition them from inside to out into that greenhouse first I think before they go direct into the soil. Although our house is double brick and much like a fridge at the best of times anyway.. There is only one small section 15cm x 25cm that is the heated part. The rest is only on foam.
everything is looking good, do you always grow inside and then transplant out? I am wondering if it would cause shock going from a warm seed bed to the cooler outside soil? not sure as I have always planted outside and havent been in the garden for sometime (onlt just getting back in touch with my green thumb) thanks for the update
